If you want to be a writer …

Don’t buy a hammock!

I say this in all sincerity. Very little stops me writing. Even migraine only slows me down. In fact, if you suffer from migraine, it’s a good idea to see if you can undertake technical editing when you’re feeling bad. Technical editing is deleting all the uncessary ‘that’, ‘very’ ‘to be’ usages from your work and undertaking such a task with a really bad headache can make you into a ruthless pruner of your own words.

But last weekend I bought a hammock and it’s been a disaster. Every time I see the thing I climb into it, and every time I climb into it, I fall asleep. Now I’ve had to ration myself to NOT going NEAR the hammock until I’ve done my day’s writing.

This is so funny, Kay. Hammocks are glorious, aren’t they?

Technical editing on migraine days. I’ll give that a try, Kay!
