Brag-space

One of the real joys about having friends who are also writers, is that you can brag on their behalf without feeling any of the boastfulness you’d feel about your own trumpeting.

And when you have a friend as talented as Bunny Goodjohn, it may take a while even to catch up with her successes. Not only did she take third place in the 2005 Wild Violet short fiction contest, she’s been so busy with her novel, her degree studies and her poetry that she actually failed to notice!

I remember Bunny workshopping this story, and its combination of sensual detail, acute observation and slowly generated menace make it a great example of the way that a writer can understate a situation while constantly ratcheting up the tension.
